The Barrier Group announces another major breakthrough in network security. Barrier1™ now has a web application firewall as part of its comprehensive network security platform.
Web application firewalls are an important security component in today’s ever-changing IT environment. Application attacks can’t be prevented by traditional firewalls or intrusion prevention systems. Present IDS systems alone are not adequate to achieve the ultimate goal of being 100% effective against network compromises because they do not do a good job against layer 7 type of attacks.
Attacks are perpetrated by exploiting the web server. The attackers enter through the same open door in perimeter defenses that customers use to access the website. Without an effective web application firewall, malicious activity can’t be distinguished from normal traffic.
Developed by four major credit card companies, the PCI standard requires that any transaction or account information given to a merchant remain confidential and safe from unauthorized access. Since September, 2007, merchants who accept credit cards are required to demonstrate compliance with PCI DSS version 1.1.
